Drawers & Headphones

4.9.2007

In preparation for some upgrades in route from china as I write this, I decided to spend some time tonight cleaning up our office—or really, my half of it.

Things were going pretty quickly until I ran into what can only be called my “Headphone drawer from hell.”

Now, I have some pretty odd drawers under my desk so this wasn’t unexpected. Here is a breakdown:

  • There is the Random Stuff Drawer with everything from random flashing items (read: crap) from E3 and CHI to old wallets and credit cards I plan to keep forever (I have every wallet I’ve ever used in that drawer.)
  • Under that is the Technology Drawer which contains just about every electronic device I’ve ever owned. My first cell phone, first game-boy, first graphing calculator from high-school, and a wold radio my dad gave me and I used to listen to while taking baths as a child. Oh, and I have a newton in there too.
  • Next is the 43 Folders Drawer that serves the purpose of helping me get things done… er, well.. In theory.. I tend to keep the collection of any kind of paper on the low side, so this is really an unused drawer.
  • In my other set of drawers I have a Power Cord Drawer that is pretty boring. This has power cords for a lot of the stuff in the aforementioned technology drawer, along with cords for who-knows-what.
  • The CD Drawer is above that, and has things like the most recent version of osx to the first beta—i wonder if I have any computers that will even run on anymore…
  • The last drawer is the one that has been giving me problems and prompted me to write this post. This drawer is suppose to be my office supply / stamps / checks drawer—but has become something much worse… The Headphone drawer from hell. This drawer contained:
    • 6 pairs of ipod headphones (4 unopened)
    • 4 pair of sony ear buds (don’t ask me why, I don’t know)
    • 1 pair of PSP branded headphones and remote (with a rubber cord that is very “sticky”;)
    • 1 set of mini-speakers (that have the quietest sound output ever)
    • 6 pairs of OEM headphones in various stages of development (all from motorola, all utter junk.)
    • 3 old cell phone headsets (I think one of these is for my first Nokia cell phone.)
    • 1 pair noise canceling headphones (I use these only while traveling, otherwise they are way too bulky.)

Did I mention that all the headphones in the last drawer were all completely tangled together in a nice tight clump? All the headphones in the last drawer were all completely tangled together in a nice tight clump. It took forever—and a good bit of pain and crying—but I owned that beast of a clump.

booya.

Alright, I should get back to cleaning..
